Newsletter December 2014

05 December 2014

Dear fellow pilot

Wow, it is December already with only with just over two months until the Central Districts Championships to be held from Waipukurau Aerodrome from Sunday 15th to Saturday 21st February 2015 inclusive with Saturday 14th available as a practice day.

The airfield at Waipukurau has been booked and we already have some committed entries. The contest director will be Neil Faulknor with weatherman, task setter and scorer Graham White. Towplanes are organised. A number of quality daily prizes are being put together.

Again, gourmet BBQs will be organised with plenty of food. New season apples will be available free to all pilots, crews and helpers.

While like much of New Zealand, the westerlies have been a common occurrence in the last month with plenty of gentle wave, some strong thermal days have been in between. Good local convergences have also formed at times.

It looks like we may be heading for a dry summer with plenty of strong thermals from the dry fields.

We can again offer great hospitality and if the weatherman is correct, fantastic flying conditions of mainly thermals but also convergences and occasional gentle wave in February.

There are plenty of accommodation choices to suit every pocket from camping on the aerodrome itself to cabins at local camping grounds, motels and hotels etc. Being only 30 minutes from Hastings, there are plenty of options for after hours activities and the other half.

Plan your flying break now in an area with some paddocks larger than airfields if on the odd occasion you have need of one.

We aim to have a friendly reporter coming to give the sport some free publicity which will hopefully highlight the soaring clubs in the Central Districts area.

We need support from all clubs to help revitalise the sport. Please pass this on to all your members.

Further information is available at http://cdchamps.blogspot.co.nz/ (this website) and this will be updated as time progresses.

So, put the dates of this contest (Sunday 15th to Saturday 21st February 2015 inclusive with Saturday 14th available as a practice day) on your calendar and plan for a great fun trip to Hawkes Bay this summer.

Further good news is that there is no increase in the entry fee from last year. An entry form is attached and also available from www.glidinghbw.co.nz/links It would be a great help if you can give us the earliest possible indication of entry.
